"For this RTST Sir Peter Hall Director Award production, the co-producers selected Noël Coward's Private Lives. I'd never seen or read the play before, and what struck me most was the youthful energy and passion of these characters - so different to the buttoned-up dusty version of Englishness that I'd expected from its reputation. So I wanted to bring that vibrant energy to this production and make a version of this play that might speak to people who, like me, had assumed it wasn't for them."
